The City of San Bernardino has announced the next phase of construction taking place around Waterman Avenue at the 210 Freeway will begin Wednesday, February 17.
Caltrans will begin work on a $7.2 million project to expand the eastbound offramp to the 210 Freeway at Waterman Avenue. When completed, the project is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve safety for motorists exiting at Waterman Avenue.
The project, which follows a recently completed on-ramp project at the same location, will help reduce congestion by adding a third lane and guard rails to the offramp, and modifying the traffic signals on Waterman.
Heavy traffic volume at the current Waterman Avenue off-ramp often backups onto the 210 Freeway, raising collision risks. This project aims to increase the off-ramp capacity and improve signal operations, reducing queue spillback, enhancing intersection performance, and boosting overall safety.
To minimize traffic impacts, much of the construction work will take place at night, although some periodic daytime work and weekend closures of the ramp will be required.
The project is expected to be completed in October.
