Homeless facility opens in San Bernardino

A 140-unit facility for homeless men has opened in San Bernardino.

The Homeless Community Wellness Campus at 1345 N. G St. will help men in greater San Bernardino who are experiencing homelessness, poverty or addiction according to a city statement.

The project will be operated by the Lutheran Social Services of Southern California. It will supplement a 70-bed emergency shelter that then charitable organization has operated at the North G Street address since 2016.

Units will be provided for up to six months.

An opening ceremony was held July 14.

“Today is more than about opening a new facility,” Mayor Helen Tran said in a statement, “It’s about opening new opportunities for some of our most vulnerable neighbors and demonstrating what can happen when government, nonprofit organizations, and community partners work together with a shared purpose.”

The $35 million Wellness Campus was developed by San Bernardino and Dignity Moves a San Francisco-based nonprofit that develops temporary supportive housing. San Bernardino County also assisted.
