A Cal State San Bernardino program that helps adults return to school has received a grant from the federal government.
The $241,332 subsidy from the U.S. Department of Education to the university’s TRIO Educational Opportunity Center will also help young people who did not finish high school earn their GED’s, according to a statement on the school’s website.
The grant, arranged by Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, is limited to Inland Empire residents.
Besides assisting with GED’s, the subsidy will help recipients apply to college and complete financial aid applications. They may also get help finding a apprenticeship and filling out financial assistance forms, and take courses to improve their financial skills.
“Through TRIO EOC, Cal State San Bernardino reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that individuals have the guidance, resources and opportunities they need to pursue higher education and achieve their college and career goals,” said Dalia Hernandez, director of the opportunity center, in the statement.
