San Bernardino awarded state beautification grant

San Bernardino has announced they will receive a $722,772 Clean California Local Grant from the State. The City says the funds will be used to restore and beautify the 4th street alley area between D Street and E Street in downtown San Bernardino.

As part of the Historic Arts District in downtown San Bernardino, the 4th Street alley area beautification project will include the construction of a 500 square foot stage, an arched neon sign across the alley entrance; and wall murals to be painted by local artists.

The project will also plant trees, shrubs, and a living garden wall, install benches and tables; replace deteriorated ground asphalt, upgrade the existing irrigation system, add two bike racks, add outdoor lighting, install trash cans, and add an automatic gate.

The Clean California Local Grant Program, created by Assembly Bill 149 in 2021, aims to beautify and clean up local streets and roads, tribal lands, pathways, transit centers, and transform public spaces into points of pride. The grant program is administered by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Work on the project is slated to begin later this year.
