Alexander appointed to school board

Felicia Alexander has been appointed to the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) Board of Education from a pool of nine local applicants.

The vacancy on the board came about when Dr. Gwendolyn Dowdy-Rodgers won her bid to serve on the San Bernardino County School Board.

Alexander brings to the Board her experience as Sector Director, Global Supply Chain, where she leads global logistics efforts for an aeronautics and defense company. Alexander is also an adjunct professor at California State University, Long Beach, teaching courses in operations management, supply chain management, and reversed logistics modules. She has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in organizational development and leadership.

“I’m here in front of you because I’m passionate about our scholars, I’m passionate about the resources and all that we can provide them because they are our future,” Alexander said during her opening remarks to the Board.

Alexander said she is interested in getting back to the pre-COVID graduation rates, making sure middle schools have the resources needed for after-school programs, and growing the career pathways programs. She also said she has three grandchildren in San Bernardino City Schools so she has a vested interest in the District.

“I was very pleased to see the quality of candidates who applied for the vacant position on the Board. It is that kind of care and dedication to our students and school community that we need, not just from Board members, but from all of our community leaders,” said Board of Education President Dr. Scott Wyatt. “We could only select one candidate for the Board, and I am looking forward to working with Felicia Alexander to continue moving our District forward.”

The provisional appointment will become effective in 30 days unless voters submit a petition to the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools calling for a special election, pursuant to Education Code 5091. As a provisional appointee, Alexander will serve on the Board until the general election in November of 2024.
