Sole Alley, formerly known as the 4th Street Alley, will celebrate its opening as a downtown destination on Friday, July 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be music, food, and the unveiling of several new murals that adorn the site.
The alley is located on 4th Street between D and E Street in the heart of the Historic Arts District of downtown San Bernardino. Plans are underway to hold regular arts, music, cultural, and educational events at the site.
The creation of Sole Alley has transformed a downtown space that for many years had largely gone unused. The alley now features an arched neon sign across the alley entrance, wall murals to be painted by local artists, new lighting, a stage, landscaping, bike racks, and decorative pavers.
The project was made possible by a $770,000 Clean California Grant and a partnership between the City of San Bernardino Public Works Department, the Arts Connection/Arts Council of San Bernardino, Creative Grounds, and Realicore.
The Clean California Local Grant Program is a competitive statewide program created to beautify and clean up local streets and roads, tribal lands, pathways, transit centers, and transform public spaces into points of pride. Assembly Bill 149 created the Clean California Local Grant Program of 2021, and it is administered by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
