In a Tweet on Monday the San Bernardino City Unified School District reported that one of its long-time board members has died. Dr. Margaret Hill was 81. Facebook tributes to her page have been pouring in all day.
“Dr. Hill’s tireless, kind and cheerful presence made her arguably the most admired leader in San Bernardino and among the greats statewide throughout the education community,” said SBCUSD Superintendent Doc Ervin. “She inspired me and I am thankful to have worked with her here.”
Hill began teaching in the 1970’s in the San Bernardino area and continued for more than thirty years, retiring in 2003. She served more than fifteen years as principal at San Andreas High School.
Hill was elected to the San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education in 2011 and was set to serve through 2024.
Hill served as a columnist on education for the San Bernardino Sun for many years and is the author of two books “It’s All About the Children” and “From Sharecropping to Non-Stopping.”
Memorial services or tributes of any kind have yet to be announced.
