Interchange up and running in San Bernardino

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority recently marked the completion of the diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 215 and University Parkway, the first structure of its kind in San Bernardino County.

The interchange, which serves as an entryway to Cal State San Bernardino, is designed to improve safety, streamline traffic, and reduce congestion by doing away with left turns across oncoming traffic, according to a statement by the authority.

San Bernardino, the California Department of Transportation, and the university collaborated to construct the interchange, which cost approximately $25 million and took 18 months to complete.

Funding came from by Measure I, the half-cent sales tax approved by San Bernardino County voters in 1989 and extended in 2004 to help pay for transportation projects, according to the statement.
