County Library Receives Donation to Expand Career Online High School

Thanks to a generous donation, the San Bernardino County Library (SBCL) is expanding educational opportunities for adults by increasing access to its Career Online High School (COHS) program, helping more residents earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate at no cost.

The donation will supplement scholarship funding provided through the California State Library, allowing SBCL to increase scholarship availability, strengthen the program’s long-term sustainability, and expand community outreach so more eligible residents can take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.

COHS provides adults who did not complete high school with the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma online while preparing for careers in high-demand industries. Residents can learn more at any of SBCL’s 32 branch libraries or begin the enrollment process online at library.sbcounty.gov/adults. Scholarship administration and enrollment are coordinated centrally by the library.

“This generous investment is an investment in the future of our community,” said County Librarian Melanie Orosco. “By expanding access to Career Online High School, we’re empowering more residents to achieve their educational goals, strengthen their career opportunities, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.”

The additional funding will also enable SBCL to expand awareness of the program beyond its existing partnerships, connecting more adults throughout San Bernardino County with opportunities to complete their education and advance their careers.

Since the program’s inception, nearly 260 San Bernardino County residents have earned an accredited high school diploma through COHS, opening the door to new educational and career opportunities.

Each year, SBCL honors graduates during its COHS graduation ceremony, celebrating the determination and achievement of residents who have reached this important milestone. This year’s ceremony will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center.
