Construction to begin fall 2024 on I-215 University Parkway interchange

In an effort to decrease congestion and improve freeway access to I-215 and University Parkway, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and the City of San Bernardino, in cooperation with Caltrans District 8, will construct a Diverging Diamond (DDI) which will provide a safer way to travel while minimizing the cost of new infrastructure.

The $23.1 million project will address congestion and heavy traffic movement through the interchange in the city of San Bernardino. The project received $5.7 million in Federal funding, $14.2 million in local funds, including Measure I funds, and $3.2 million from the City of San Bernardino.

According to the SBCTA, construction activities may include pavement work, traffic shifts and nighttime lane and ramp closures. During the construction, it is important to be aware and use caution throughout the corridor as workers and heavy equipment will be present.

Construction on the project is anticipated to begin in October and take about a year to complete.

More information about funding, planning, design and construction can be found at the SBCTA website for the I-215 University Parkway project.
