San Bernardino County, Continuum of Care receive state grant

San Bernardino County and the San Bernardino City and County Continuum of Care will receive a $10 million state grant both will use to help battle homelessness.

The money from the state Department of Housing and Community Development will be used to build housing for people without a permanent place to live, according to a statement on the county’s website.

The grant will make it possible to convert used and interim housing into permanent housing. It will also pay for street outreach, intensive case management, housing navigation, rental assistance, and security deposits.

“This funding is an important investment in our approach to addressing homelessness,” said Joe Baca, Jr., the Continuum of Care’s board chair, in the statement. “It will expand permanent housing for people who need it most, while strengthening prevention efforts so fewer people fall into homelessness.”

The Continuum of Care is made up of representatives of the city, county, and several nonprofits. Both entities submitted a joint application to obtain the funding, according to the statement.
