San Bernardino Library’s Popular Summer Reading Program Returns

The San Bernardino Public Library and the Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library have announced that their popular Summer Reading Program has returned. This free program will be open to readers of all ages now through Saturday, August 1 and will feature special events at each library.

“This is a great way to encourage reading during the summer months, especially for kids,” said City of San Bernardino Library Director Ed Erjavek.

This year’s theme is “Plant a Seed, Read,” which draws the parallel between a farm that grows food to nourish our bodies with a library that grows ideas that nourished our minds. This connection serves as a reminder of the importance of libraries as a safe place where kids can obtain knowledge while having fun.

Participating readers will be eligible for a drawing to earn prizes based upon their age. Kids will be eligible for prizes from local restaurants like In-N-Out Burger, Raising Cane’s, and Panda Express. Teens and adults will be eligible to win an assortment of other prizes. All age groups will also have a chance to win books as well.

Drawings for the prizes will be held at the completion of the program in early August.

Participants earn online badges based upon their time spent reading. Each badge earned will give participants an entry into the prize drawing. Teens and adults will also be able to write online reviews of the books they read to earn extra prize entries.

The Summer Reading Program will be administered online. Participants can sign-up at sbpl.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack app to track their reading minutes, share book reviews, and earn entries for the grand prize raffle.
