The Mexico Café, Family Dining and Adult Entertaining

Most San Bernardino residents are very familiar with the Mexico Café on Highland Avenue.  On top of having great Mexican food, the family-owned restaurant has been a mainstay in the community supporting local nonprofit organizations and San Bernardino Police and Firefighters.

Originally opened in 1951 by Ernesto and Feliciana Gaitan, the Mexico Café moved to its current location on East Highland Avenue in 1974.  “The Gaitan Family still owns and operates the café as the fourth generation embarks on continuing the visions of their great grandparents.”

The Mexico (as locals simply refer to it) offers a full array of traditional Mexican cuisine from appetizers to soup/salads to large dinner plates with beans and rice.  Main dishes come in variety with beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian plates available.

We particularly enjoy the Chile Relleno plate with “Grandma’s recipe handed down for generations.”  If you haven’t tried authentic chile rellenos, you will be in for a delicious, cheesy, slightly spicy surprise.

For adult entertaining, the Mexico has a full bar and is open for take-out and patio dining for lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
