Summer reading program kicks off June 5

The San Bernardino Public Library and the Friends of the San Bernardino Public Library have announced its popular Summer Reading Program will return on Monday, June 5th and run through July 29. The program, open to readers of all ages, including children, is designed to encourage reading during the summer months. There is no cost to participate.

This year’s theme is “Find Your Voice,” which encourages skill development and exploration, both in books and outdoors. Summer Reading Program participants will be eligible to win prizes ranging from an Amazon gift card for children, headphones for teens, and adults will be eligible to win a tablet, along with gift cards for Viva La Boba in San Bernardino, courtesy of Thinkwise Credit Union.

Children, teens, and adults will earn online badges by keeping track of their time spent reading. Each badge earned will give participants an entry into the prize drawing at the end of the program. Teens and adults will also be able to write online reviews of the books they read to earn extra prize entries.

The Summer Reading Program will be administered online. Participants can sign-up at sbpl.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack app to track their reading minutes, share book reviews, and gain entries for the grand prize raffle at the conclusion of the program.

To celebrate the launch of the reading program, special events will be held at each San Bernardino Library in conjunction with the “Find Your Voice” theme. On Monday, June 5 at 5:00 pm, Feldheym Main Library will feature a “Wonders of Wildlife” program. The Inghram Branch Library will feature magician Arty Loon on Wednesday, June 7, at 4:00 pm.  Arty Loon will also appear at Rowe Branch Library at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28.

Drawings for the grand prizes will be awarded at the completion of the program in early August. For more information, call the library at: (909) 381-8201 or (909) 381-8215.
