San Bernardino votes to get “fair share”

Voters are fed up with not getting their fair share.

That’s the message coming out of election night with a majority saying yes to ballot Measure EE.

Measure EE asked the electorate whether San Bernardino County elected representatives should “study and advocate for all options to obtain the county’s fair share of state funding, including secession from the State of California,” according to the Voter Information Guide for San Bernardino County.

As of November 15, the measure is passing 50.62 percent to 49.38 with more than 100,000 ballots left to count according to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

The debate started after Jeff Burum, a real estate developer from Rancho Cucamonga, asked supervisors to consider placing a secession measure on the ballot and turning the county into a new state with the possible name of “Empire.”

The next update to election results will be November 16 at 4:00 p.m.
