SB County looking for residents to serve on redistricting commission

The County of San Bernardino is looking for qualified residents to assist the Board of Supervisors in redrawing supervisorial district boundaries.

Every ten years following the completion of the U.S. Census, the County must redraw boundaries for all five supervisorial districts to ensure they have nearly the same number of residents and meet other criteria.

Previously, the redistricting was done by the board, but with the approval of a new County Charter last November the board is now required to appoint a redistricting commission made up of local residents.

The commission will consist of seven members; with two appointed by the presiding judge of the Superior Court and each district Supervisor appointing the remaining five members.

Members of the commission must be registered to vote in the county and not be:

  • an elected county official or a family member, staff member, or paid campaign staff member of an elected county official.
  • have served as a staff member of an elected official during the past four years.
  • have served in elected office or campaigned as a candidate for an elected office during the past four years.
  • have served as a member of a political party central committee during the past four years.
  • have contributed more than $500 per year to any candidate for elective office during the past four years.

Commissioners will receive a stipend of $100 for each meeting they attend.

Interested residents can apply at SBcounty.gov. Applications must be signed in ink and postmarked by April 5.
