Guttierez returns as Chief of School Police

John Guttierez has officially returned to serve as Chief of School Police for San Bernardino City Unified School District according to an announcement by the district on social media.

“We are excited to welcome Chief Guttierez back home to SBCUSD, where his experience, vision and dedication will continue to support the safety and success of our students, staff and families,” the post reads.

Guttierez brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience and a deep connection to the community. Most recently serving as Chief of Police at Cal State San Bernardino, he has led efforts to strengthen campus safety, improve emergency preparedness and build meaningful partnerships both on and off campus.

His career also includes service with both the Los Angeles School Police Department and SBCUSD Police Department, where he served as a sergeant under now-retired chief Joseph Paulino and helped implement safety initiatives that continue to benefit students and staff today.

He started in his new role on March 16.
