City celebrates reopening of East Side Skate Park

Members of the San Bernardino City Council and Parks and Recreation staff and joined members of the skateboarding community on June 12 for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the East Side Skate Park at Speicher Family Memorial Park.

The East Side Skate Park has been re-designed, expanded, and rebuilt in partnership with New Line Skateparks and includes elements for both experienced and beginning skateboarders.

Originally opened in 2009, the skate park closed in 2022 after a series of fires that left the ramps and other equipment unsafe for skating.

The $1.79 million replacement of the Eastside Skate Park is one of several projects taking place at the 28-acre Speicher Family Memorial Park. Earlier this year, the City broke ground on a project in partnership with the County of San Bernardino and the Yuhaaviatam Tribe of San Manuel Nation. The $5.8 million project, to be completed later this year, will include the refurbishment of the park’s five baseball and softball fields, including the installation of new lighting, bleachers, electronic scoreboard, a new snack bar, ADA compliant bathrooms, and other park amenities.

The Speicher Family Memorial Park is located at 1535 North Arden Avenue near Pacific Street in the northeast part of the city. It is heavily used by members of the community, baseball and softball leagues, skateboarders, and by students from San Gorgonio High School, which is located across the street from the park.
