Kohl's to close San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center

Kohl’s to close San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center

Kohl’s announced last week that it would be closing its San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center (EFC) in May when the lease on that facility expires, and the closure of 27 underperforming stores.

The San Bernardino facility has been in operation for Kohl’s since 2010. It is one of 15 EFCs and Distribution Centers in Kohl’s supply chain network across the country. The closure follows recent efforts to incorporate new technology at newer EFC facilities and expand the company’s ability to fulfill customer orders from store locations, thereby eliminating the need for the San Bernardino facility.

Kohl’s also plans to close 27 stores, 10 of them in California, by April 2025:

California

  • Balboa (San Diego) – 5505 Balboa Ave.

  • Encinitas – 134 N El Camino Real

  • Fremont – 43782 Christy St.

  • Mountain View – 350 Showers Dr.

  • Napa – 1116 1st St.

  • Pleasanton – 4525 Rosewood Dr.

  • Point West (Sacramento) – 1896 Arden Way

  • San Rafael – 5010 Northgate Dr.

  • San Luis Obispo – 205 Madonna Rd.

  • Westchester – 8739 S Sepulveda Blvd.

Employees affected by the closures have been offered a severance package or the ability to apply to other open roles.

“We always take these decisions very seriously,” said Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer in a statement. “As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.”

  1. I work at the EFC 2 since it opened back in 2010 to the present. We seen big changes in the warehouse that would lead anyone to think the warehouse was closing. We were always told that would not happen. Sadly that was not true. Hopefully the associates that need to find another job, do. No one in our warehouse was offered a transfer anywhere. The older associates will retire not really wanting to but find it necessary. We want to really know what they mean by when they say Kohl’s Cares and Expect Great Things.
