Volunteers needed for 2024 homeless point-in-time count

The annual homeless point-in-time count (PITC) is coming January 25th and San Bernardino is looking for volunteers to assist with the count.

“Addressing homelessness is a top priority for San Bernardino,” said Mayor Helen Tran. “We hope San Bernardino residents will once again turn out to be an important part of the solution.”

Volunteers will meet at the National Orange Show, Gate #10, located at 930 S. Arrowhead Avenue in San Bernardino before conducting the count throughout the city.

The PITC is a Federally mandated activity created to identify the number of unhoused individuals throughout the nation. The results of the count are used in determining funding allotments for programs and services in local communities.

“A complete count is essential to strategically address homelessness in the City,” said Cassandra Searcy, Deputy Director of Housing and Homelessness. “Volunteer participation is crucial for a successful Count.”

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have a “smart” phone/device to conduct the count.

A mandatory training must be completed prior to volunteering in the PITC on January 25^th. The training is offered virtually or in-person. There will also be one in-person training on January 17^th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Norman F. Feldheym Central Library, located at 555 W. 6^th Street, in San Bernardino.
