Newsom expands access to public park in San Bernardino County

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed legislation that will make it easier for the public to use recreation space near Glen Helen Regional Park.

AB 385 addresses restrictions on a 4.2-acre piece of the park that San Bernardino County bought years ago with state grants, according to a statement on the county’s website.

Currently, the county may not change or swap those properties without the approval of the state legislature. AB 385 allows the county to dispose of the restricted land, if it’s replaced with parkland of equal or greater size and recreational value.

The bill was sponsored by Assemblyman James C. Ramos, D-San Bernardino, and endorsed by San Bernardino County.

“My bill grants state authorization for the county to move forward with a major project to enhance the region’s quality of life and boost the local economy,” Ramos said in the statement.  “The proposed multiuse project will bring new amenities, including expanded recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.  This is an important local-state collaboration that I welcome.”
