Grant supports San Bernardino Wellness Campus interim housing

Last week the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a $1.48 million grant agreement between the county’s Community Development and Housing Department and Lutheran Social Services of Southern California. The funding will go to support the construction of 140 new interim housing units at the San Bernardino Wellness Campus.

The facility, located on North G Street in the city of San Bernardino, will serve individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness with wraparound health care, housing navigation and supportive services.

The funding comes from the Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program (HHIP) to address an approximately $3.28 million funding gap in the project created by new state solar infrastructure requirements and utility connection fees.

Community Development and Housing is also entering into a subordination agreement with Lutheran Social Services of Southern California and the city of San Bernardino, which is contributing $1.8 million in Permanent Local Housing Allocation funds to close the project funding gap.

The project currently is scheduled for substantial completion and occupancy by early spring 2026.
