City closes a portion of Sixth Street for upgrades

A portion of Sixth Street between Waterman Avenue and Pedley Road closed in both directions on Monday according to a statement on the City of San Bernardino’s website.

The closure is expected to last for approximately six weeks while multiple utility infrastructure improvements are made, including water, sewer, and gas work, before additional street improvements are made.

Although the closure impacts only a small segment of Sixth Street, through traffic will not be permitted in either direction during construction. Traffic control signs and electronic message boards will direct motorists to detour routes, including Fifth Street and Ninth Street.

No businesses will be directly affected by the closure, and continued access to all businesses on Sixth Street will remain available throughout construction.

The closure, part of the City’s homeless navigation center construction project, is expected to continue through early July.
