Chris Wilhite to serve two more years as Assessor-Recorder-Clerk

Last week the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed Chris Wilhite to serve an additional two years as Assessor-Recorder-Clerk.

“I want to thank the Board of Supervisors and County leadership for their continued support,” Wilhite said. “I am looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of San Bernardino County.”

On Sept. 13, the Board appointed then-Assistant Assessor Wilhite to serve out the term to which Bob Dutton had been elected in 2018. Bob Dutton passed away on July 23. That term ends on Jan. 2, 2023.

In June 2022, Dutton was re-elected to serve from Jan. 2, 2023 until January 2027. The County Charter requires the Board to appoint someone to serve the first half of that term and then call for a special election to fill the second half. On Tuesday they decided to stick with Wilhite for that first half, through Jan. 6, 2025. A special election will be held in November 2024 to determine who will fill the remainder of Dutton’s term from January 2025 to January 2027.

Before his appointment in September, Wilhite spent more than 22 years in public service in the Assessor-Recorder-Clerk’s office as lead appraiser and in supervisorial and management roles. Since 2019, he served as the Assistant Assessor. Wilhite also has more than 36 years of appraisal and real-estate related experience in the private sector and as a business owner.
