County Schools Names New Director of Communications

Jenny Owen has been selected to lead the office of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, County Superintendent Ted Alejandre announced today.

“I am so pleased that Jenny has agreed to join our team,” Alejandre said. “She comes to the position with energy and a wealth of experience both as a former teacher and as a communications professional.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the team of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools,” Owen said. “I am eager to serve San Bernardino County’s learning community and look forward to building bonds with all of our stakeholders. The innovative work being achieved by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools is inspiring.”

SBCSS Communications is responsible for external and internal communications that inform and engage the public, school districts, and community partners, and promotes programs operated by the SBCSS and public education in general. Media and public relations, administration of the SBCSS website and social media sites are among the department’s responsibilities.

Owen’s SBCSS scheduled start date is March 1.

Currently, Owen serves Duarte Unified School District in Los Angeles County, in a lead communications role. She comes to SBCSS with a successful track record of more than 20 years in education. Prior positions held include public relations consultant/grant writer, teacher/school programming coordinator, outreach consultant, and resource specialist program teacher.

Owen is a member of both the National School Public Relations Association and the California School Public Relations Association.
