Sixteen arrests made during DUI checkpoint

The San Bernardino Police Department announced 16 arrests and 49 citations were made during a DUI checkpoint held on April 26.

One driver was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and another 15 drivers were arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license.

The DUI checkpoint was held on 3200 block of N. E Street, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. More than 450 vehicles were contacted during the checkpoint and 12 vehicles were impounded.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related collisions. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
