Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs After Suspect Fires at Officers

The San Bernardino Police Department issued a statement following an officer involved shooting last week.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at approximately 8:48 AM, the San Bernardino Police Department received a 911 call from a woman reporting that she had been shot. During the call, dispatchers could hear screaming and arguing in the background and gunshots being actively fired. Dispatch could also hear the suspect saying, “Your son is out there dead, you’re next!”

The investigation revealed that the suspect and the female victim had previously been in a dating
relationship that recently ended. On the morning of the incident, the suspect arrived at the victim’s
residence and asked to speak with her in the front yard. During an argument, the suspect shot the victim.

The victim’s adult son came outside and was also shot by the suspect. The female victim was then struck with the handgun before going back inside the residence, where the suspect shot her again.
Upon arrival, officers located the first shooting victim near the driveway and the second victim on the
porch near the front door of the residence. As officers attempted to rescue the victim on the porch, the suspect began firing at officers from inside the residence. Officers immediately returned fire.

Officers subsequently entered the residence, where an additional officer-involved shooting occurred.
During a search of the home, officers also located a third victim hiding underneath a bed and safely
rescued her. She was not injured.

The two shooting victims and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Both victims are expected to survive and are listed in stable condition. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at Loma Linda University Medical Center. No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation also revealed that the suspect had a prior criminal history that included offenses related to domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and weapons violations.

In accordance with department protocol, detectives from the San Bernardino Police Department’s
Homicide Unit responded and are conducting the investigation. The San Bernardino County District
Attorney’s Office also responded and is assisting with the investigation into the officer-involved
shootings.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding this
