DUI checkpoint nets multiple arrests and citations

The San Bernardino Police Department held a DUI checkpoint last week where several drivers were either arrested or cited for infractions. The DUI checkpoint was held at W. Baseline and Arrowhead Avenue from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Of the 537 vehicles contacted during the checkpoint five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and 14 citations were issued. Twenty drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, one person was arrested for possession of a loaded handgun and fifteen vehicles were impounded.

The San Bernardino Police Department conducts DUI checkpoint at locations throughout the city that are based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on February 17, 2022.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
