The City of San Bernardino Department of Animal Services will join more than 150 California animal shelters for the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025. As part of the event, all adoption fees will be waived at the City’s main shelter and new Satellite Adoption Center.
“Every adoption of a dog or cat creates space for another animal in need and brings joy to a family ready to open their hearts,” said Leslie De La Camara, Community Outreach Manager for the San Bernardino Animal Services Department. “With the incredible support of our event partners, we’re hopeful many pets will find loving homes on Saturday.”
Adopting a pet from a local animal shelter has many benefits. Shelters will vaccinate, microchip, and arrange for spay/neuter services for adopted pets. As a result, families and individuals are bringing home a pet who has received essential medical care, and staff will work with families to help ensure each animal is matched with the right home.
The City of San Bernardino Animal Shelter has two locations for residents to meet and adopt pets. The main shelter is located at 333 Chandler Place and is open on Saturday, June 7 from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. The newly opened satellite adoption center, which features dogs and cats, is located at 1543 West 8th Street and is open from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
A refundable deposit may be required for adopted pets needing to be spayed or neutered.
Adopt-a-Pet Day is organized by Cal Animals (California Animal Welfare Association) with support from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and the SF SPCA (San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
In 2024, more than 3,000 animals were adopted on the inaugural California Adopt-a-Pet Day – surpassing the original goal of 2,024 adoptions. This year, event organizers hope to place 5,000 dogs, cats, horses, and other small animals into loving homes.
