San Bernardino has received $1.1 million in federal funding that it will use to improve its emergency services.
The money will help pay for the installation of permanent backup power generators at water booster pump stations, and backup batteries at up to 50 traffic signals, according to a statement released by San Bernardino.
Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, arranged the grant through through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“This is about preparedness, resilience, and protecting San Bernardino residents and businesses,” Mayor Helen Tran said in the statement. “The funding helps us deliver safer streets, improved emergency response, and greater continuity during power outages and emergencies.”
During the past few years, San Bernardino has experienced wildfires, flooding and severe winds.
“Reliable water service is not just a convenience – it is essential for public health, firefighting capabilities, and protecting our neighborhoods during times of crisis,” said Kim Knaus, San Bernardino council member, in the statement.
