San Bernardino City leaders, community members, and Little League families gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Gutierrez Park baseball field.
“Today, as we cut this ribbon, we honor not only the future of this field — but its incredible legacy,” Mayor Helen Tran said during the ceremony. “Today’s renovations are a testament to our commitment to carry that legacy forward.”
For 75 years, Gutierrez Park has served as the home of KKC Little League — Kiwanis Knights of Columbus — one of San Bernardino’s most enduring youth sports organizations. Since the early 1950s, generations of young athletes have played on the field, building friendships, teamwork, and community pride.
The extensive renovations were made possible through a partnership between the City of San Bernardino and San Bernardino County Supervisor Baca, whose leadership helped secure a $747,800 County grant for the project. The City contributed an additional $302,000 toward the improvements.
The revitalized ballpark now features a completely upgraded playing field and facility improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for players and spectators alike. Renovations included a new infield, upgraded bleachers and dugouts, modernized field lighting, a new scoreboard, improved parking lot, widened sidewalks, upgraded ADA parking, safer driveway access, and fresh asphalt and concrete throughout the facility.
Additional upgrades included new fencing and gates, rebuilt bleacher foundations, dugout roofs, team benches, bat racks, improved bullpen areas, refreshed batting cages, foul poles, wall padding, backstop netting, new trash enclosures and signage, parking improvements, and major upgrades to the concession building, including a new roof and utility connections.
The concession stand also now features a vibrant new KKC Route 66 mural, recognizing Gutierrez Park’s location along the historic Route 66 corridor on Mt. Vernon Avenue.
The park is named in honor of Ramon L. Gutierrez, a World War II veteran and longtime community leader who dedicated nearly six decades to coaching, mentoring, and volunteering at the field that now bears his name.
