Domestic disturbance ends in officer-involved shooting

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 6:21 PM, the San Bernardino Police Department’s dispatch center received a report of a disturbance in the 2900 block of North H Street. The call was made by the suspect’s wife, who reported that her husband, whom she has a restraining order against, was causing a disturbance.

Upon arrival, patrol officers encountered the suspect, who refused to comply with officers’ commands. During the encounter, the suspect stated he had a firearm concealed in his waistband. A short time later, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The suspect was identified as Kevin Bryan Martinez, a 35-year-old resident of El Monte, CA.

Homicide detectives and investigators from the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

During the investigation, officers learned the suspect has a reported history of domestic violence. Family members reported prior incidents in which the suspect became physically abusive toward his spouse while under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was recently released from jail related to a domestic violence incident and is currently on probation for domestic violence.

A temporary restraining order is in place protecting the victim. Family members also indicated they have been fearful of the suspect and have limited contact with him due to his prior violent behavior. Additionally, during the investigation, the suspect’s wife reported that he had recently expressed suicidal statements, raising concerns about his mental and emotional state prior to the incident.
