Stater Bros. Markets recently announced the promotion of Rebecca Calvin to Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, and Bertha Luna to Executive Vice President Store Operations. Calvin and Luna will continue as key members of the company’s Executive Leadership Team and report directly to Stater Bros. CEO and President Greg McNiff.
As McNiff settles into his new CEO role, Calvin will add oversight of the company’s supply chain to her current set of marketing responsibilities. Meanwhile, Luna will now oversee all areas of retail store operations and assume accountability for workforce planning, which includes labor budgeting, sales forecasting and store insights.
“Over the last several years, Rebecca and Bertha have cultivated a collaborative relationship that has benefited Stater Bros. immensely,” said Stater Bros. CEO and President Greg McNiff. “I look forward to working with them to build upon that collaborative spirit so that our company can continue providing fresh, affordable groceries and class-leading customer service for our communities.”
Calvin began her career in the grocery industry with Daymon Worldwide as a category buyer. Before arriving at Stater Bros., she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer at The Save Mart Companies and Vice President of Grocery, Frozen, and Dairy at Mariano’s. She joined Stater Bros. in 2022 as its Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.
Calvin graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a Minor in Business Administration. She is also a graduate of the Cornell University Food Executive Program and has earned a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. Calvin currently serves as vice president on the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) Board of Directors and is a co-chair on the Topco Operations Team.
Luna began her career in the retail grocery industry as a Courtesy Clerk at Lucky Stores and joined the Stater Bros. team as a Store Manager during Stater Bros.’ acquisition of Albertson’s and Lucky Stores in 1999. Within a year, she had transitioned to a role in retail supervision, first as a Retail Grocery Supervisor and then Retail District Manager. After serving in the Human Resources Department as Director of Diversity, she returned to the Retail Department in 2017, resuming the role of Retail District Manager before being promoted to Senior Director Retail Operations shortly thereafter. She was promoted to Senior Vice President Retail Operations in 2022.
Luna earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Western Governors University and is also a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) Food Industry Executive Program. She currently serves as secretary on the California Grocers Association (CGA) Board of Directors Executive Committee and is a board member for Retail Marketing Services (RMS).
