Community Input Sought for Baseline Street Traffic Safety Study

Community Input Sought for Baseline Street Traffic Safety Study

The City of San Bernardino is looking for input from the community for upcoming traffic improvements to make travel along Baseline Street easier, safer, and more convenient.

The Public Works Department recently launched the Baseline Street Safety Study, an interactive map that allows residents to share their thoughts, ideas or concerns where Baseline feels unsafe or needs improvement. The map can be found on the project website.

The five-mile project corridor stretches from Meridian Avenue to Tippecanoe Avenue, linking neighborhoods, schools, and key destinations in Wards 1, 2, and 6 of San Bernardino.

As part of the study, the City is considering improvements such as:

  • New traffic signals to enhance pedestrian safety and ensure efficient vehicle circulation.
  • Pedestrian safety upgrades, including flashing crosswalk lights and high-visibility crosswalks to help people cross safely.
  • New bike lanes to support safer travel.

The study will also:

  • Identify locations of traffic safety and accessibility concerns
  • Recommend practical design solutions
  • Create a plan to guide future traffic improvements
  • Help the city pursue federal and state grant funding

The Baseline Street Traffic Safety Study is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning & Demonstration Grant, which supports the City of San Bernardino’s 2022 Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP).
