K-12 students in California who refuse to wear masks inside school buildings will be barred from campuses and offered “alternative educational opportunities,” state officials announced Monday, July 12. The exception will be for students granted exemptions, such as those whose medical condition that make it too difficult for them to keep a mask on.
“Schools must exclude students from campus if they are not exempt from wearing a face covering under (California Department of Public Health) guidelines and refuse to wear one provided by the school,” the department stated in its latest guidance for K-12 schools.
So much for following the science. Previously, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that it is unnecessary for vaccinated students and teachers to wear masks. But California knows better. Under pressure from the state teachers unions no doubt, the State of California unlike just about any other state in the union will require even the vaccinated to wear masks while on public school campuses.
This, of course, despite research showing that children and young adults are not very susceptible to the coronavirus strains nor are they generally carriers that spread the disease. Again, so much for following the science.
The hypocrisy is glaring. The indifference to the suffering of the kids is galling. But the even more frustrating aspect of this is trying to figure out the why. Why do the teachers unions want to inflict such damage on our kids?
When one thinks about the attitude of the teachers unions toward the children they are entrusted with one is reminded of Dolores Umbridge the spiteful teacher and headmaster of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films who famously said “you know I really hate children.” If an animal shelter treated dogs the same way as they are treating our children there would be outrage all over social media.
The California public school systems are among the most expensive and worst performing in the nation. California schools are outclassed by fly-over states like South Dakota and Wyoming among thirty something other states for academic reasons and now they add this to make things worse.
Home schooling looks better and better.
