Two Candidates Announce Runs for Mayor in San Bernardino

Although Incumbent Faces Challenges His Opposition so far is Weak

Two People Have officially announced challenges to embattled Mayor of San Bernardino.  Treasure Ortiz a political neophyte and previous loser in a council campaign has thrown her beret into the ring and Helen Tran a current Parks Commissioner has announced she will be running as well.  Mayor John Valdivia has proven to be an able campaigner and has demonstrated the ability to raise vast sums of campaign cash so he will be a formidable opponent.

Fred Shorett a long-time city councilman also has previously established an account to run for mayor he has made no announcement.

Valdivia has been attacked by various rivals and has been accused of wrongdoing but nothing has been proven and he has vehemently declared his innocence.

Tran through a media release said she is supported by many members of the community including former Mayor Carey Davis.

A social media post from Treasure states, “It is time to take our City back! No more pay to play! No more corruption! It is time to let the Council manage and for the City to move forward into prosperity.”

Ortiz who uses the title of Doctor in campaign related materials is not a medical doctor of any kind but has a PHD in Public Administration from the University of Laverne.

“She may want to be careful about having a Jill Biden like problem,” said Lou Desmond a local talk-radio host and note political campaign advisor.  “Voters don’t like to be misled and it gives her opponents an easy angle to discredit her and her habit of grandiosity and self-promotion.  Tran with her background with the City appears the more serious challenger.  Her issue will be raising the funds to compete but with the former mayor and his network behind her that may alleviate that problem to an extent.”

He went on to say that it is so early that it is impossible to say where the race may end up but that it is likely that more people will get into the race and that may favor the incumbent.
