San Bernardino State of the City Goes Online

While controversy surrounds a related VIP reception, San Bernardino Mayor John Valdivia presented the 2021 San Bernardino State of the City in an online presentation that included reports and updates on homelessness, transportation, economic growth, water conservation and public safety.

After a brief introduction by the mayor on the new Amazon Air facility built at San Bernardino International Airport, which contributes 7,000 jobs regionally and up to 25 flights a day, and a presentation on homelessness recovery, Valdivia introduced Steve Pontell of National Community Renaissance or National CORE.

National Core is currently reconstructing the old Waterman Garden’s low income housing site, replacing it with Arrowhead Grove, a 184-unit low income and market rate apartment facility.  The site at the corner of Waterman and 9th Street had long been an eyesore and crime magnet under the failed low-income housing models of the 1940’s that continued through the 1970’s.

Other presentations were provided by Police Chief Eric McBride and representatives from the County of San Bernardino, Inland Valley Redevelopment Agency, San Bernardino International Airport Authority, and economist Chris Thornberg.

The State of the City presentation was just over 40 minutes and can be viewed here.
