San Bernardino County has appointed veteran Matthew Knox as director of Veterans Affairs.
Knox, is a former Cavalry Scout with more than two years of service in the United States Army. During his military career, Knox was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment in 2003. During his deployment, Knox was wounded by enemy combatants during an ambush of his mounted patrol near the Baghdad International Airport and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device.
Knox’s prior experience includes serving as the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) program officer for San Bernardino County and former chief of staff to Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe and district director to then-U.S. Representative Col. Paul Cook (Ret.).
“It’s such an honor to lead this organization because our team plays a pivotal role in ensuring veterans and their families receive the benefits they earned through service to our country,” said Knox. “The department has developed a reputation as a tireless advocate for veterans, and I plan to continue this legacy into the foreseeable future.”
