California sets month long mask mandate to combat COVID-19 variants

California relaxes statewide mask mandate in public settings

As of Wednesday, California will no longer require vaccinated people to wear masks indoors in public places, given that omicron cases and hospitalizations have significantly decreased across the state.

Unvaccinated persons will still be required to wear masks indoors. Children, also are still required to keep their masks on at school for at least another two weeks. The state will reassess the mask requirement for schools on Feb. 28.

Everyone will still have to wear masks on public transportation, in nursing homes and other congregate living facilities. Businesses can still choose to keep a mask requirement in place for all customers and employees, even if the county has dropped the mandate.

The State will continue to not actively enforce its mask rules, nor does San Bernardino County have an enforcement mechanism for State mask rules.

Information on the State’s COVID-19 rules and guidelines can be found at covid19.ca.gov.
