Bright future for San Bernardino according to finance director

In the most recent edition of “Morning Brew”, a regular community update series that is sent out every Monday morning, residents received an update from the city’s financial team.

San Bernardino finance director, Barbara Whitehorn explained that the passage of Measure S will bring in approximately $27 million every year.

Whitehorn went on to explain how the $27 million will be allocated.  According to Whitehorn the funds do not go into the general fund but the process requires that city staff study the funds available along with the needs to be filled and then make recommendations to the Measure S board which will ultimately vote on and thus decide how the monies will be spent.

Whitehorn and Mayor Valdivia stressed the need to restore services to the community that have been cut during the last decade as the city faced dire fiscal challenges including a bankruptcy.

“We need to fortify some of the services that have been cut,” said Valdivia.  “We are grateful for the funds and the confidence of the city council to move forward expeditiously in rolling out these services.”

Whitehorn went on to say that she felt like a “turning point” had been found and that the city had a “bright future” ahead.
