Board of Supervisors adopted County budget 2021-22 with intent of economic recovery

The 2021-22 County budget was adopted by the Board of Supervisors last week, which focuses on investing in businesses and residents. The aim is to help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total overall budget of $7.6 billion recognizes the relative stability of county revenues and plans to keep resources available for future economic challenges. The Board is also setting aside an additional $41 million for the General Purpose Reserve, and looks to end the budget for the year with a $19 million General Fund operating surplus.

“We are being fiscally responsible with your tax dollars and we are listening to your priorities,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman. “We are putting resources in the right direction and this budget gives us the opportunity to move this county forward.”

To address some concerns by the community, the Board of Supervisors earmarked $10.4 million to help combat illegal marijuana cultivation, illegal dumping and graffiti abatement, and illegal vending in problem areas over the next several years. Another $5 million investment in the County’s Regional Parks for prompting outdoor activities in Glen Helen, Yucaipa, Prado, Guasti, and Mojave Narrows regional parks.

In addition, County systems and online services are due for technological upgrades to better serve business and residents, which will help the county generate revenue to meet the public’s needs.

The County of San Bernardino’s Adopted Budget covers the County’s fiscal year of July 1 through June 30. For the full 2021-22 budget visit https://wp.sbcounty.gov/cao-finance/budget/
