Cal State San Bernardino recognized for overall excellence

Curtis Middle School awarded Gold certification for Linked Learning Pathway

San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) recently announced Curtis Middle School has been awarded a Gold certification from the Linked Learning Alliance for its Linked Learning Pathway. Curtis is the first middle school in the Inland Empire and the second in the entire state to earn a Gold certification.

Linked Learning Pathways combine rigorous academics, career technical education, work-based learning and support services to prepare students for both higher education and a financially rewarding career.

As part of Curtis Middle School’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Pathway, students gain the prerequisite industry skills in machining and manufacturing to seamlessly transition to Indian Springs High School’s Silver-certified Machining Pathway. STEM Pathway students also have the potential to become certified operators of Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) mills and lathes, potentially leading to gainful employment upon graduation.

According to the Linked Learning website, Gold certification represents the highest-quality standard for career pathways. Each pathway must demonstrate student-centered learning with “strong career and postsecondary integration, combined with student supports that ensure equitable opportunities for all students.” The other Gold-certified middle school is Hollenbeck Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
