Firefighters arrived on-scene to a residential fire early Tuesday morning in the 300 block of West 8th Street, San Bernardino.
The presence of heavy smoke and fire showing from second-floor apartments and the close proximity to other apartments caused a second alarm to be called. San Bernardino County Fire responded with nine Engines, two Truck Companies, two Battalion Chiefs, a Safety Officer, a Fire Investigator & a Fire Prevention Officer. Colton Fire assisted with an Engine.
Firefighters initiated an offensive fire attack, working to limit the fires spread and search for any potential victims. Despite their best efforts the fire spread to the attic space of the multi-unit apartment complex. Firefighters inside and on the roof worked to pinch the fire off & were successful in keeping the fire to four units and the attic space. More than a dozen units were saved.
The fire was knocked down in 30 minutes. No injuries to either firefighters or residents were noted. A total of 13 residents were displaced by the fire. Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced with temporary housing.
The fire remains under investigation.
