Five suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and 16 citations were issued while conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, June 18. The checkpoint was held at 1180 W. 9th Street from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Fifteen drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. 207 vehicles were contacted at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. As the state continues to work to stop the spread of COVID-19, the San Bernardino Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they are traveling.
“Public safety is a key priority and factor in bringing the City of San Bernardino back to its glory days,” said Mayor John Valdivia. “I applaud the great work of our City of San Bernardino Police Department on taking pro-active measures like these to make our streets safer.”
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
