San Bernardino has received nearly $2 million from San Bernardino County and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians that the city will use to pay for improvements to Rick Speicher Family Memorial Park.
Tribal officials have pledged $1 million and the county $950,000 to upgrade the 28-acre park on Arden Avenue near Pacific Street in the northeast part of the city , according to a statement on the city’s website.
The money will be used to renovate fields, put in artificial turf, upgrade lights, install bleachers and a scoreboard, replace the snack bar and construct two bathrooms, among other upgrades.
“I’m honored to be a part of this partnership with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, San Bernardino, and San Bernardino County,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., in the statement. “Working together we are able to invest in open space and park improvements for our families to enjoy.”
Baca presented a ceremonial check to the city council Sept. 21.
County funding will come from the American Rescue Plan Act, tribal funding from San Manuel’s philanthropic entity, according to the statement.
