Renters in the City of San Bernardino who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and fallen behind on bills may qualify for a rent and utility assistance program.
The City of San Bernardino recently established the Emergency Rental Assistance Program in partnership with Inland SoCal 211+, to leverage more than $6.4 million in U.S. Treasury funds to provide rental and utility assistance to City residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Income qualified renters in the City of San Bernardino with a valid COVID financial impact are eligible for up to 12 months of past due rent and utility assistance from March 13, 2020 up to the time of application.
Household/Renter Eligibility:
- Household must reside at an eligible address located within the City of San Bernardino, and;
- Household must be obligated to pay rent on a residential housing unit, have a household income at or below 80% of area median income (AMI) and;
- One or more individuals within the household has qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due, directly or indirectly, to the COVID-19 outbreak; AND
- One or more individuals within the household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (i.e. unpaid utilities, eviction notice, unpaid rent notice)
