Rental assistance program to provide up to 12 months of past due rent

Renters in the City of San Bernardino who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and fallen behind on bills may qualify for a rent and utility assistance program.

The City of San Bernardino recently established the Emergency Rental Assistance Program in partnership with Inland SoCal 211+, to leverage more than $6.4 million in U.S. Treasury funds to provide rental and utility assistance to City residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Income qualified renters in the City of San Bernardino with a valid COVID financial impact are eligible for up to 12 months of past due rent and utility assistance from March 13, 2020 up to the time of application.

Household/Renter Eligibility:

• Household must reside at an eligible address located within the City of San Bernardino, and;
• Household must be obligated to pay rent on a residential housing unit, have a household income at or below 80% of area median income (AMI) and;
• One or more individuals within the household has qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due, directly or indirectly, to the COVID-19 outbreak; AND
• One or more individuals within the household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (i.e. unpaid utilities, eviction notice, unpaid rent notice)
