Staters named top regional grocer

Progressive Grocer has named Stater Bros. a top regional grocer in the United States.

Coming in at number 3, the San Bernardino-based supermarket chain, is one of only eight nationwide, that can legitimately be called a regional operation, according to the publication’s website.

“Amid all of the chatter about consolidation in the grocery industry, a few regional grocers are beloved by shoppers for doing all of the things that the larger competitors find difficult,” the publication stated. “That is, offer a rich and rewarding customer experience.”

The retailer in recent months has been focused on remodeling older locations to enhance the overall shopping experience for customers. Some of the priorities for the retailer’s store renovation projects include updated layouts to optimize convenience and accessibility, new flooring for a clean and inviting atmosphere and refreshed restrooms for customer comfort.

Staters is also implementing fresh-cut produce stations, full-service bakery and service delis, and offering freshly made sushi.

Stater Bros. employs approximately 18,000 people throughout Southern California.
