First commercial flights offered at San Bernardino International Airport

San Bernardino International named most affordable US airport

Good news is coming out of San Bernardino. At a time when airfare rates are rising, a new report from the US Bureau of Transportation has ranked San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) as having the cheapest fares among US airports.

According to the report, “Average Domestic Airline Itinerary Fares by Origin City for 2022,” passengers leaving from SBD in 2022 paid an average of $98. The next lowest airport was Santa Maria, Calif. Other regional airports include Ontario International which ranked 52 with an average of $364 and Palm Springs International at 119 with an average of $393.

SBD Director of Aviation, Mark Gibbs said this of the ranking, “Breeze Airways’ attractive fares to the places people want to go allow Inland Empire residents to start close and travel far from their local airport.”

SBD launched passenger service with Breeze Airways in August 2022, offering nonstop flights to San Francisco, with one-stop service to Provo, UT. In February this year, Breeze added service to Las Vegas, a flight that continues on to Hartford, CT.

Breeze’s service at SBD has been an incredible success story for the airport, with nearly 50,000 travelers flown since the launch of service.
