San Bernardino PD operation shows buying alcohol for minors can cost you

A recent operation conducted by the San Bernardino Police Department was designed to deter the practice of adults buying alcohol for minors and it resulted in several arrests.  Last week the department sent decoys to a number of locations that sell alcohol within the City of San Bernardino.

The decoy who is underage typically hangs around outside the store and approaches people and asks them to purchase alcohol for them.  If the purchase is completed and alcohol provided to the minor than the buyer is arrested.

According to a department press release, 15 locations were visited and more than 150 individuals were contacted by the decoys. Of those, 5 people illegally furnished alcohol to minors. Those individuals were arrested.

A source close to the operation stated “Programs like these remind people that buying alcohol for minors is a crime and that in San Bernardino it won’t be tolerated.”

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California ABC Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) Program. ABC is a department of the Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency. The San Bernardino Police Department and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) are working in partnership to reduce alcohol-related harm and its effects in the community.
