In a special closed session Monday, the San Bernardino City Council discussed and ultimately appointed Tanya Romo as the new acting city manager, replacing previous acting city manager Rochelle Clayton.
Romo has worked for the City of San Bernardino for more than 15 years in a variety of positions including, deputy city manager, neighborhood & customer service operations manager, assistant to the city manager, and executive assistant to the city manager. Before coming to San Bernardino, Romo held executive and administrative roles at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the City of Montebello.
The City of San Bernardino and its residents have had to contend with months of uncertainty in the top staff position following a revolving door of City Managers, both acting and permanent, coming and going.
Romo’s appointment will be temporary while the city moves forward with its nationwide search for a permanent city manager. That process is expected to take up to six months.
Rochelle Clayton has returned to her role as deputy city manager.
